To continue on from my closing prayer last week, this weekend, we have the second of 5 Sundays in a row where we will not be celebrating a 'regular' Sunday. The Solemnity of Pentecost is this weekend, when the Holy Spirit came to the Apostles and the Church was founded. How fitting that this Sunday as well, St. Gabriel's Confirmation Candidates we be Confirmed, receiving the same Holy Spirit as the Apostles did. So this weekend, please pray for our OCIA candidates who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation!
Today, we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, alleluia; on this day the Holy Spirit appeared before the apostles in tongues of fire and gave them his spiritual gifts. He sent them out to preach to the whole world, and to proclaim that all who believe and are baptized shall be saved, alleluia.
Father of Light, from whom every good gift comes,
send your spirit into our lives
with the power of a mighty wind,
and by the flame of your wisdom
open the horizons of our minds.
Loosen our tongues to sing your praise
in words beyond the power of speech,
for without your spirit
man could never raise his voice in words of peace
or announce the truth that Jesus is Lord,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and evr.
Amen.
